Summer internships are well underway, and you might be considering getting a head start on applying for winter internships. Internships offer valuable work experience, an opportunity to grow your network, and maybe even land your dream job. But how do you go about securing a paid internship? Here are some tips to help you navigate the next recruitment cycle.
1. Know What You're After
First things first, figure out what you’re passionate about. Do you love graphic design, or maybe marketing is more your thing? Knowing what excites you will help narrow down your search.
2. Draft a CV / Portfolio
Keep it clean, concise, and relevant. You may not have heaps of formal experience but you can highlight any projects, volunteer work, or passion projects you have completed. If you have a portfolio, ensure that it is up-to-date and includes all of your best work. Book a Creative Connect session today, in-person or online, to speak to one of our dedicated career coaches and get feedback on your existing work and portfolios.
3. Network, Network, Network!!!
Attend industry-specific events, join social media groups, and set up a LinkedIn.
4. Prepare for Interviews
Research the company, practice interview questions with friends/family, and think about some questions you may want to ask.
5. Stay Positive
Rejection is a natural part of the process, so don't be discouraged. Keep applying, networking, and building your portfolio. Eventually, the perfect internship will find you.
Internships are just the starting point of your career journey.
Good luck!
