Are you feeling a bit nervous about your first creative job interview? Don't worry, we've got you covered! Here are some tips to help you stand out and land your first (or second) job in the creative industry.
Do Your Homework
Before your interview, take the time to research the company thoroughly. Understand what they do, their mission, values, and the interviewer. Use this knowledge to tailor your answers to align with the company.
Practice Makes Perfect
Practice answering common interview questions with a friend or in front of a mirror. This will help you become comfortable with your responses and reduce nervousness. Be prepared to answer questions such as "Tell me about yourself," "Why do you want to work here?" and "What are your strengths and weaknesses?"
Be Punctual
Being punctual for virtual interviews is just as important as for in-person ones. Log in a few minutes early to make sure your technology is working correctly and to settle any last-minute nerves. First impressions count! Be positive and enthusiastic. Let your passion for the role and the company shine through.
Ask Questions
Always prepare around 3-5 questions to ask the interviewer. This shows that you’re interested. The interview is as much for you as it is for them - ask questions.
Follow Up
Send a thank-you email after your interview. If you mentioned sharing examples of your work or portfolio, remember to include them. Aim to send the thank-you email within 24 hours of the interview.
Remember: Interviews are a two-way street. It’s also your chance to see if the company is a good fit for you. Be yourself, stay positive, and most importantly good luck!
