As a textile designer, I use weave as a medium to visually narrate stories of nostalgic feelings, memories and childhood moments. Family albums, objects and clothes are archival pieces of work that are important to my research as they are ways to translate stories in woven textiles.
Blending my Bangladeshi heritage and London roots together plays a significant part in my creative practice as they inform my narrative as well as colour, patterns and materials. Growing up in London, surrounded by different cultures has led me to interweave themes of identity, land and home which is reflective in the primary research I gather. This personal approach to my work lets others see how I use weave as a tool to explore my identity.
As well as this, I am a freelance workshop facilitator where I curate spaces where participants can learn new skills like creating their own yarn winding artwork and naturally dyed fabrics. The STEP programme will be a stepping stone for me in learning more about different aspects of the creative industry and how I can progress in my career.
