I am Ratiba Ayadi, a composer, producer, and sound/performance artist working under the alias Silent Songstress. My practice centres on fragmented vocalisations over sonic landscapes, probing the possibility of curating invisible structures. Through writing while recording, I build emotive worlds. Silent Songstress and I exist as a hybrid entity, navigating the extension of space and identity within the diaspora. Together, we explore the act of presence in absence, becoming both nothing and everything simultaneously—a bridge between worlds.
Through performance, we communicate these vulnerabilities in public-sphere often baring the soul by investigating self and matter. The work is instantaneous determining the practice to be site and situational-led. Unpacking the alchemy in healing - they channel emotive melodies through otherworldly lyrics and synthesised language.
I am drawn to the idea of existing as a hybrid entity, creating sonic works that span contemporary art institutions, public transport sites, large-scale music venues, and film scores. At the same time, exploring my potential in movement direction and somatic-oriented practices. STEP will be a great opportunity to expand professionally alongside my freelance practice, networking and engaging with institutions and individuals giving insight into the creative sector.
