Peijia Hu

I have always been interested in humanities and creative arts. Fascinated by the commonalities and differences between times, places, and cultures, I am passionate about exploring the reasons behind them and the connections shared by human beings that can transcend all the barriers. It led me to pursue a degree in media and communications, which was a wide range of sociology theories, contemporary media arts and creative practice.

During the past few years, I have been actively trying out various roles of the creative industry, such as volunteering for film festivals and doing a placement in gallery. That was when I discovered my main interest in theatre and performing arts. Before STEP, I have been freelancing in theatre for about 18 months, mostly doing producing, production and photography, with a focus on collaborating with migration-themed productions and fellow East and South East Asian artists. Outside of work, I enjoy travelling, writing, music, exploring green spaces around London (or not) and a lot of things.

I find STEP as a great combination of work placement and career mentorship, allowing me to get a deep understanding of an arts organisation and equip myself with invaluable hands-on experience and industry insight over the next year. For my role as the Producing and Touring Trainee at Sadler’s Wells, I am especially excited about how they are physically based in East London while delivering impact and resonance all over the world. Can’t wait!
